Curriculum

Curriculum at St Teresa’s College

The curriculum at St Teresa’s Catholic College is grounded in a commitment to excellence, equity and student wellbeing, as outlined in The Alice Springs (Mparntwe) Education Declaration, which places young people at the centre of their learning and emphasises high-quality curriculum, strong foundations in literacy and numeracy, and clear pathways for future success.

Years 7–10: Building Strong Foundations and Exploring Possibilities

In Years 7–10, the College delivers learning programs aligned to the Australian Curriculum Version 9, ensuring students develop the essential knowledge, understanding and skills required to be successful learners, confident and creative individuals, and active and informed community members

The Australian Curriculum Version 9 provides a clear, consistent and developmentally sequenced framework across learning areas, while also allowing flexibility to respond to student interests, strengths and learning needs.

Years 7 and 8: Exploration and Broad Learning Experiences

The junior secondary years are structured to provide students with a broad and balanced learning experience. All students engage with the full range of learning areas, allowing them to:

  • Build strong foundations in literacy and numeracy
  • Develop key capabilities such as critical and creative thinking, personal and social capability, and digital literacy
  • Explore a wide variety of subjects and learning contexts

This exploratory approach supports students to discover emerging interests and talents while establishing positive learning habits and confidence as secondary learners.

Years 9 and 10: Choice, Depth and Pathway Preparation

As students move into Years 9 and 10, the curriculum provides increased choice and flexibility through elective subjects. These options allow students to:

  • Pursue areas of interest and passion
  • Engage in deeper learning and subject specialisation
  • Begin shaping informed pathway decisions for senior schooling

Learning experiences in these years are designed to support growing independence, application of learning across contexts, and preparation for the academic and vocational expectations of senior secondary study.

Years 11 and 12: Senior Pathways for Every Learner

In Years 11 and 12, St Teresa’s College offers a senior curriculum aligned to the requirements of the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA), ensuring full compliance with Queensland’s senior secondary curriculum, assessment and certification processes.

Senior students can access a range of subject pathways designed to align with their post‑school aspirations, including:

  • General subjects supporting pathways to tertiary study and ATAR eligibility
  • Applied subjects and vocational education and training (VET) options supporting further training or direct entry to the workforce
  • Individualised pathways that recognise diverse strengths, interests and learning goals

Through informed subject selection, personalised guidance and ongoing monitoring, students are supported to make purposeful choices and work towards meaningful post‑school outcomes, whether that be university, further vocational training, apprenticeships or full‑time employment.

A Curriculum for Every Pathway

Across all year levels, the curriculum at St Teresa’s Catholic College is designed to support the academic, personal and future development of every student. With a strong foundation in nationally and state recognised curriculum frameworks, combined with a breadth of contemporary learning experiences, the College provides students with the opportunity to unlock their potential, pursue their interests and confidently transition into life beyond school.
