Monday the 28th of May saw the Open A Netball team head down to Caloundra Indoor Sports Stadium to play against Good Shepard Lutheran College in the Grand Final of the Sunshine Coast Secondary Schools Netball Competition. The squad, consisting of: Phoebe Rogers (12); Lucy Sill (9); India Madin (12); Ellie Cogill (12); Mieke Healy (10); Georgia Applegate (12); Emma Coleman (11); Piper Thomas (9); Megan Carson (9) and Fran Cogill (9) have trained hard since the end of last year, under the coaching of Mrs. Kellie Barker and Keirra Massoud.
The game started and nerves were high, leading to a few crazy passes and loose balls. However, nerves quickly subsided once we all got into the flow of the game. The game went point for point for a few minutes until we began pick off a few of Good Shepard's passes, and then there was no stopping us. We set ourselves in good stead in the first quarter, leading by about 5 points, and then furthering that lead going into half time by another 3 points. For the third quarter, Meg Carson came on at Centre, and despite being the youngest player in the team, she had a formidable presence on the court. At the conclusion of the 3rd quarter we were up by about 11 points and we were feeling confident for the last. Here, Ellie replaced Meg in Centre after a killer quarter and our season starting 7 took the court again for the final quarter. The last quarter was a display of excellent shooting and attack and awesome defence. By the time the buzzer went, we were up by 20 points. The win was reflective of all the time and effort all of the girls have put in over the season and it was a great way to finish the season. Congratulations to Phoebe Rogers and Emma Coleman and Phoebe Rogers who were equal 'best on's'.
A huge thank you to anyone who came down and supported as part of 'the Flock', in 5 years playing netball at Teresa's, I have never seen a crowd so big at a game. Your energy and support was greatly appreciated by the whole team. We hope the support for netball at STCC can continue over the coming years.
What a great season it's been so far, and a great 5 years in the Netball academy for myself, Georgia, Phoebe and India. Now we have our eyes on the prize for the upcoming QISSN competition.
Thanks for the ongoing support,
STCC Netball Captain
