We have a kitchen garden up and running for the Food Technology department! It has been a cross-curricular project – working in partnership with groundskeepers Mike, Simon and Amy (contributing to her Cert. III in Parks and Gardens traineeship) who built and filled the box for the garden. Mr Eleison and some of his Construction students re-worked cementing to retain easy access to the gas bottles, and on Wednesday a group of Year 7 and 8 students put their ‘green thumbs’ and school sprit to good use and helped plant the first seedlings in our new Kitchen Garden beside the T2 kitchen. It has been a pleasure to see students stop and check it out on their way to class, identifying the plants and discussing their uses in dishes. The selection of herbs, vegetables and edible flowers will be utilised by Food Technology students to accentuate their dishes. And the garden will be added to in the coming months. This little garden is the start of what we hope to be a rich learning tool for all our students and adds more natural beauty to our grounds. Student involvement is encouraged and appreciated.
